Overview
On April 2, 2020 the fourth and final Visual Media Strategy Forum (VMSF) hosted 122 participants online from 30 nations. Originally scheduled for March 28-29 in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the conference was moved to an online format due to COVID-19. The VMSF is the bi-annual gathering associated with the 20/20 Vision. The 20/20 Vision is a multi-agency partnership creating indigenous Gospel media for 161 unreached people groups of 1 million or more people.

Here are the recorded sessions. There are segments where the recording lagged behind the presentation, however the audio remained consistent.
Part I includes a 20/20 Vision overview, an exhortation from Jim Green, an introduction to Media to Movements, and addressed on strategic storytelling and the role of media in disciple-making movements.
Part II includes addresses on the role of indigenous producers, a Q & A session, four case studies, four “invitations from the harvest,” the introduction of the Media4Movements vision and final remarks.

- Walking with Jesus series now helps Masaai follow Jesus in a culturally appropriate way.
- WhatsApp is being used to follow up and people are coming to Christ
Overview of the Funnel Process (Jon Ralls)
- Seekers search on Google and YouTube.
- Media to Movements has the goal of face-to-face meetings that lead to discipleship and reproduction.
- Media is the top of the funnel to expose people to the gospel for the first time.
- Yugoslavia example, Hook video and landing page video. Viewed by about 2/3 of the city. Cost: several hundred dollars.
- Story of Jackson Heights/Corona Virus in New York City.
- Media creators are needed.
- What kind of media? Local content, in the heart language, with subtitles, shareable, stories.
- Hook videos: less than a minute.
- Landing page videos: longer, testimonies are a great example.
- Themes: Address people’s pain in a positive way.
- We all have a part to play: lose the labels and partner to use gifts and talents given to us. Kingdom.training has resources
Strategic Storytelling (Tom Khazoyan)
- Stories are not the most important thing. Stories need to lead to engagement.
- Stories change imagination (high level conversion), helps them see what is possible…world view shift.
- Wrap Stories in Strategy!
- Start with: imagining a persona, identify channels used by the person, determine how to engage…then create your story.
- Egypt example.
- Don’t just measure views, how do stories support the final goal?
Now to the 25% (Conkeys and Grace)
- 75% of all unreached people able to be reached through 20/20 films
- Now we must turn to the remaining 25%.
- Disciple-making movements are underway. We can serve them.
- The key….change from creating media for indigenous people to media created by indigenous people.
- Media for Movements lack people for the face-to-face connection at the bottom of the funnel.
- Media producers need to produce content with disciple-makers.
Indigenous Producers (Penny, Esther, Steve)
- Partnership can be difficult, but is key.
- Partner with cultural advisors on every project.
- On Central Asia project, Esther served as a producer. She brought insight, props, and creativity.

- Steve initially mentored Binu. Now they co-produce.
- Frontier Filmmaking program to partner with local Christians to create film
Banjara Case Study (Calvin Conkey)
- Did a film for 60 million Banjara.
- Local believers would show film, start a small group.
- 10,000 saved and 500 churches planted in 5 years.
- Someone posted the film on YouTube and they had 800,000 views.
- YouTube drove speakers of the language to the people who were posting the video native speakers posted.
- Now have 2 million Christians and 10,000 church planters.
Kutchi Case Study (Binu)
- Took his film to the Gujarati community in Kenya.
- Hundreds of people were able to see the film.
- People were asking for help to do indigenous worship in their homes.
- On YouTube it got 270,000 views.
