Executive Summary: Building Your Follow-up Coalition

Overview

34 people gathered on November 5, 2019 for an online event focused on building a follow-up coalition. We heard from two experts on how they have addressed their follow-up coalition building in very restrictive environments. Those who have been working on Media to Movements for a while realize how important and difficult building a follow-up coalition can be. Without this, you are identifying those who are open but not bringing them into the critical phase of on-the-ground relationship.

Have a compelling vision and state it clearly

  • Make sure potential coalition members know what they’re being onboarded to b part of

Define a healthy partnership

  • Partnership requires two parties to need each other in aligned vision

Develop partnership agreements

  • Clearly lay out what you have to offer
  • Clearly lay out what you need from partners
  • Agreed upon expectations (mapped back to vision)
  • Embrace accountability
  • Bless each other in mission even if you decide not to work together

Use your power tools

  • 1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one 
  • Another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
  • Clear, proactive communication
  • Used for affirmation as well as in times of conflict
  • Turn on the lights before you burn bridges to build fellowship
  • Turn on the lights to illuminate and celebrate successes

  • Collaboratively multiplying disciples and churches generationally
