Overview
Tümlükden Nura” (From Darkness to Light) is the first indigenous gospel film for the 10 million unreached Turkmen people of Central Asia. This 13-minute film tells the true story of Shohrat Piriyev overcoming his fear of the Sirat bridge. The Sirat bridge is the bridge that Islam describes “as thin as a razor and suspended over the fires of hell.”

Shohrat’s Story
Shohrat tried to draw near to God through religious ritual, yet God remained as distant as the stars. Glimmers of hope appeared when his brother-in-law told said he had found the “Straight Path,” the bridge to God. Shohrat struggled, but listened. He finally yielded his life when he heard Jesus speak Turkmen, through the JESUS film. Jesus said, “Come to me all you who are weary and heavy burdened and I will give you rest.” More than 20 years have now passed and Shohrat stands strong in his faith. He has guided many from his village and his country to the Straight Path to God, becoming one of the fathers of the modern Turkmen Church.
The Opportunity
Today, satellite television broadcasts, social media and mobile phones provide a gateway to reaching a large number of Turkmen. In the most closed country of the former Soviet Union, “Tümlükden Nura” (From Darkness to Light) will show that heaven is not achieved by “crossing a razor-sharp bridge suspended over the flames of hell,” but by trusting Jesus. Turkmen will discover that hope is possible no matter how painful life’s circumstances.
The Strategy and The Plan: 20/20 Vision Film
In 2012, the Visual Story Network joined a group of partners to produce indigenous audio and visual gospel presentations for least-evangelized peoples by the year 2020. This “2020 Vision” partnership produced and will distribute Shohrat’s Story. Shohrat’s Story was filmed in Tajikistan with landscape shots from Turkmenistan. Shohrat’s narration was filmed in the United States.

The majority of the 10 million Turkmen people lives in Turkmenistan, Iran, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. This film will speak to any Muslim people groups. We desire to see this translated into multiple languages.

Subtitles are currently available in English, Russian, Spanish and Farsi.
It is also dubbed into Farsi for satellite broadcast.
